The Problem with Too Much Information

329 0 05 Oct 2017

Information is everywhere. Louis Freeh once said that, “Collecting intelligence information is like drinking water out of a fire hydrant.” While you’re not likely collecting intelligence information, that’s what information overload is like: drinking water from a fire hydrant. Much of it will spill out and be missed. The same can be said about information overload.

  • Feeling Too Much Stress – One of the main symptoms of information overload is to feel stress. Some people say it feels like their brain is being so bombarded by information that as information goes in one side it’s coming out the other. This causes people to forget things, which makes the stress build.

  • Lack of Confidence – When there is so much contrary information available, it’s hard for people to choose the right course of action. For example, there are numerous reports that spanking is both bad for kids and good for kids. How do you know what information is right and what is wrong, and how do you proceed? The lack of confidence can cause people to not make any choices or feel bad about the choices they make.

  • Improper Information Filtering – When too much information is transmitted, the person receiving it often shuts off in a way. Normally the filtering process categorizes information as important or not important, but when there is too much there is often improper filtering called twigging. This essentially means that everything is general and all information is the same.

  • Not Knowing What’s Right or Wrong – When there is so much information with seemingly factual studies supporting them, it’s hard to know what’s right or wrong. For example, is a Paleo diet better or a vegan diet better for humans for weight loss and health? Which studies are right? Is there any way to know?

  • Feeling Confused about Common Knowledge – When you don’t know what information is real, what’s right and wrong, and you can’t see the details for the forest, it leads to confusion about things that people generally know to be true about the world.

  • Increasing the Fear of Change – When you can’t determine what the information you receive means, it can cause you to fear change because you don’t know if that change is good or bad. Since information overload leads to black and white thinking, this can increase the fear of change that most people have naturally.

  • Taking on Too Much Too Fast – Sometimes information overload can make people feel as if they can multitask everything and do more than they can. But the truth is, as shown in study after study, humans aren’t designed for multitasking. If you don’t believe that, read this Forbes article about multitasking:

You can work toward controlling information overload. Limit your exposure to screens and try to focus on what you’re doing at the time you’re doing it. Avoid multitasking whenever you can if it’s important to absorb the information properly.

10 Inspirational Quotes Than Can Improve Yourself

356 0 05 Oct 2017

It might take a little coffee or probably a few rounds of beer or any other booze you could get your hands on when it comes to relaxing after a hard day’s work. Well, yeah I’m guilty about that one as well, unless I’m caught dead wearing a lampshade over my head after a few rounds of vodka… half-naked!

Okay, bad example and I apologize to everyone reading this after getting nightmares about me in that state of drunken stupor. But sometimes inspirational quotes can get you through a MOMENT….

inspirational quotes

Just don’t ask how it happened, please.

But what’s really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? I mean, the new age thing like Zen or yoga is one of the good things and it actually works. Is there room for the intellectual side of people who can actually smell the roses-in-a-can while on the move? It kind of had me thinking that there really must be something in this ‘mind-over-matter’ thing.

Humor is indeed the best medicine there is whenever you are. I mean anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard. Despite of what’s been happening, and to those who has gone though the ordeal, it’s better to just laugh while facing the troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision. One of my favorite celebrities of all time may have to be Woody Allen. Now this is one guy who gives you the in-your-face bluntness that he pulls out with gusto, even without even trying. You can talk just about anything with a man, and he’s bound to mock the subject and you’ll end up laughing rather than being upset about it.

Woody Allen has this to say:

  1. “Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.” It sounds good to me, I mean the practicality of all things does involve money but it doesn’t have to take an arm and a leg to get it.

  2. “I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it’s the government.” ‘Nuff said.

  3. “There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?” This happens to be one of the classic ones. I mean the issue about life’s little problems isn’t all that bad, until ‘he’ shows up.

Sure, relationships can get complicated, or does have its complications that probably any author about relationships is bound to discover it soon. We follow what our heart desires, unless you’re talking about the heart as in the heart that pump blood throughout your body.

  1. “Love is the answer, but while you’re waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty interesting questions.” And if you want more, just keep on asking!

  2. “A fast word about oral contraception. I asked a girl to go to bed with me, she said ‘no’.” It sounds, ‘practical’, I think.

And when it comes to everyday life, he really knows how to make the best out of every possible scenario, and it doesn’t involve a lawsuit if he strikes a nerve.

  1. “Basically my wife was immature. I’d be at home in the bath and she’d come in and sink my boats.” I never had a boat in my bathtub before. Just staring at it while soaking in hot water makes me seasick already.

  2. “I am not afraid of death, I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” If it rains, it pours.

  3. “I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose.” It could get worse when you’re guzzling on beer… or mouthwash, and it happened to me once!

  4. “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” At least he doesn’t smite us with lightning, and I’m thankful for that.

And despite of what may happen to all of us in the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years, I guess we all have to see things in a different kind of light and not just perspective. I can’t seem to imagine life without any piece of wisdom that could guide us. Whether we’re religious or not, it takes more courage to accept your fears and learn how to deal with them is all that matters when it comes to even just getting along.

And to sum things up, here is the last nugget of wisdom to go by… however, whenever, and wherever we may be.

  1. “The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.”

The Problems with Multitasking

344 0 04 Oct 2017

Everyone thinks they’re good multi-taskers. But, the truth is, no one is good at multitasking. The human brain is not designed for it. Sure, we can chew gum, walk and talk and so forth, but when your brain needs to focus on a task such as reading, driving, learning, writing and that type of thing, it’s not a good idea to try to multitask.

  • There Is No Such Thing as Multitasking – The truth is, what we call multitasking is really what is termed “task switching“. This means that you can go back and forth between tasks such as watching TV and reading, for example, but you’re not really doing both at the same time.

  • Trying It Causes You to Be Slow – When you don’t give 100 percent of your focus to the task at hand, it will take longer. Try it for yourself. The next time you need to get something done, set a timer for 30 minutes. Do only that task. Don’t watch TV, listen to the radio, check your phone or anything. Then do the same task again for the same amount of time while also doing something else and you’ll see that you get more done.

  • It Causes You to Make Mistakes – When you multitask, you can make mistakes. What if your surgeon was texting while doing surgery? As ludicrous as this sounds, so many people think they’re able to text and drive. In many cases, multitasking is deadly; in other cases it just causes you to make unneeded mistakes.

  • It Causes Inaccuracies – Need to do your taxes? Pay attention to exactly what you’re doing and nothing else if you don’t want to make silly mistakes. The same can be said for cooking, changing the oil in your car or anything with steps to make that produce results.

  • It Makes You Stressed – When everything is taking too long, you make mistakes such as your taxes are inaccurate. And then you’re stressed out, of course. The stress can manifest itself into sickness, burnout, and worse.

  • You’re Not Experiencing Life – One of the saddest parts of multitasking is that the people who do it are missing out on experiencing life. They miss weddings, family dinners, and other intimate relationships due to always trying to do more than one thing at a time.

  • It Increases Problems with Memory – When you have too much going on, it can lead to information overload, which can cause problems with your memory. Your brain essentially starts filtering information incorrectly, which causes everything to have the same weight of importance. This causes you to forget.

  • It Affects Your Relationships – If you’ve had even one person tell you that you’re on your phone too much, listen to them. That means everyone you know probably thinks you aren’t present during important times. They start to think you don’t care about them, and you won’t be able to build long-term intimate relationships if you don’t take the time to focus on them.

  • It Makes You Fat – Believe it or not, multitasking may be to blame for the fact that over 60 percent of the population is overweight today. Why? When you eat and watch TV, eat and work, eat and drive, you’re not focused on the activity of eating, so you miss bodily cues that let you know when you’re satiated.

  • You Can’t Really Do It – As mentioned before, no one really multitasks. They just switch from one task to another. Since it’s not possible to do more than one thing at a time, stop trying. Give yourself enough time to do each thing without interference, and you’ll improve the quality of your life tremendously.

Additionally, attempting multitasking will ruin your creativity and take the joy from the things you like to do. Life is a series of events that you should take the time to enjoy and soak in, even if it’s data entry or reading a dry school book. You’ll get more out of your life if you start trying to focus on one thing at a time so that you do your best and feel good about it.

Data Entry Clerks Work at Home

310 0 04 Oct 2017

Work at home moms and some dads work as data entry clerks. This type of work offers a variety of positions and types of data entry work. Companies are always outsourcing data entry work to cut costs of having an onsite employee. It is easier and cheaper for them to rely on a work at home mom to get the job completed rather than hire someone that will only work at this particular position once or twice a month.

One type of data entry position is entering data into a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel. This might be addresses, company invoices or even links to websites. Other positions include checking statuses of homeowners to see if they still own their homes and simply typing a yeas or no in box. This however, involves a little research from a website that the client usually gives you access to before you start.

work at home

Many people are updating their invoices and need data entry clerks to go through every invoice and record the information into QuickBooks or an Excel spreadsheet. This type of data entry requires accuracy and attention to detail. Hard copies are usually sent to you by mail or they can be scanned and emailed. Some clients will need to fax this information so you should have access to a fax machine for any data entry work. There are usually time constraints on this type of data entry, but you always have enough time to complete the order.

Another type of data entry that is very popular is compiling spreadsheets with business names and contact information. Some companies need lists of schools, zip codes and even physician names and locations. This type of data entry does require some research, but most of the information you need can be found using the links that the clients give you. The pay rate for this type of data entry varies from ten cents a line to one dollar a line. If you are quick, you can make some good money doing this type of work.

If you have the right equipment, you can also do data entry online. Many companies are looking for contractors to input data into their online systems, but you do have to have a high-speed Internet connection and a reliable computer. Some of the positions available are enter poll results, sign up information and answers to questionnaires that the company sends out. These types of positions are easy to do, but you do need to have accurate data entry skills.

Although data entry sounds easy to do, a person must have patients for this type of work. Some data entry work can be tedious and time consuming. You will need to have few distractions around you. It is important that all entries are accurate or it could affect the outcome of the work. If you are doing the entries in a client’s online system, some clients can monitor how much work you are doing every hour. You have to be prepared to work the hours that they require.

If you think that your typing skills and accuracy skills are above average, you would do well working in data entry. Before you accept any data entry assignment, you should do a test first to see how fast or slow the work with go. This will help you determine how much you can make an hour and what you need to charge. Some data entry jobs can pay very well and makes it worth you time. If you are working on a per entry basis, you have to determine how that figures out hourly when you do the actual work.

Take your time before stating your cost. If a client has already posted a total payment for the job, you need to see if it pays what you should get hourly. Never under estimate your abilities, take a lower pay for something that could be harder to do, and may a decent hourly wage. If you settle for a low pay and you see that you are not making enough money, it hinders your ability to stay on track and get the job done.

10 Ways to Empower Your Communication

304 0 04 Oct 2017

The Blarney Stone is a historical stone, or actually part of the Blarney Castle in Ireland where it was believed that kissing the stone can grant you the gift of gab or communication. Yeah, it seems strange in this day and age, but who are we to question tradition? It’s not like I’m saying that Santa Claus doesn’t exist (OOPS!).

There is so much to know about conversation that anyone, even I, could ever realize. You can go though watching talk shows; radio programs; clubs dedicated to public speaking; ordinary conversations; certain rules still apply when it comes to interaction through words. It may sound tedious, I know, but even though it’s your mouth that’s doing the work, your brain works twice as hard to churn out a lot of things you know. So what better way to start learning to be an effective communication is to know the very person closest to you: yourself.

1. What you know

Education is all about learning the basics, but to be an effective speaker is to practice what you’ve learned. My stint as guest at every Toastmasters’ meeting I go to taught me that we all have our limitations, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn to keep up and share what we know.

2. Listening

It’s just as important as asking questions. Sometimes listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be a little bit confident with ourselves and to say the things we believe in with conviction.

3. Humility

We all make mistakes, and sometimes we tend to slur our words, stutter, and probably mispronounce certain words even though we know what it means, but rarely use it only to impress listeners. So in a group, don’t be afraid to ask if you’re saying the right word properly and if they’re unsure about it then make a joke out of it. I promise you it’ll make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as well.

4. Eye Contact

There’s a lot to say when it comes to directing your attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It’s important that you keep your focus when talking to a large group in a meeting or a gathering, even though he or she may be gorgeous.

5. Kidding around

A little bit of humor can do wonders to lift the tension, or worse boredom when making your speech. That way, you’ll get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they’ll feel that you’re just as approachable, and as human to those who listen.

6. Be like the rest of them

Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You’ll get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what people make them as they are.

7. Me, Myself, and I

Admit it, there are times you sing to yourself in the shower. I know I do! Listening to the sound of your own voice while you practice your speech in front of a mirror can help correct the stress areas of your pitch. And while you’re at it you can spruce up as well.

8. With a smile

A smile says it all much like eye contact. There’s no point on grimacing or frowning in a meeting or a gathering, unless it’s a wake. You can better express what you’re saying when you smile.

9. A Role Model

There must be at least one or two people in your life you have listened to when they’re at a public gathering or maybe at church. Sure they read their lines, but taking a mental note of how they emphasize what they say can help you once you take center stage.

10. Preparation

Make the best out of preparation rather than just scribbling notes and often in a hurried panic. Some people like to write things down on index cards, while other resort to being a little more silly as they look at their notes written on the palm of their hand (not for clammy hands, please). Just be comfortable with what you know since you enjoy your work.

And that about wraps it up. These suggestions are rather amateurish in edgewise, but I’ve learned to empower myself when it comes to public or private speaking and it never hurts to be with people to listen how they make conversations and meetings far more enjoyable as well as educational.

Eight Tips to Avoid Social Media Overload

324 0 03 Oct 2017

One of the problems that happen to many people who like to use social media is that it takes over their lives. Even if you’re doing it for work, you must admit that sometimes it is not really work – at least it’s not productive work. If you can focus on productivity instead of activity, you can accomplish so much more in your life.

  1. Schedule Time for Social Media – Don’t just check your social media whenever you want to. Instead, create a plan that gives you certain times and days that you work on social media. If you don’t want to get sucked into the abyss, it’s important to stick to a schedule.

social media

  1. Use Automation Smartly – When you automate social media tasks, it will help you get the most out of social media without causing overload. For example, you can automate post scheduling so you don’t have to do that every single day.

  2. Focus on What Matters Most – When it comes to doing tasks on social media, money-making tasks should come first, then relationship building, then personal activities. If you focus on just whatever is in front of you when you check your social media, you’ll get sucked in. Instead, have a plan of attack.

  3. Outsource – Find someone to help you with social media if you’re using it for business. There are many social media managers who are good at helping you do the job properly. If that’s not your main money-making activity, let someone else do it.

  4. Use the Right Tools –, and other tools like this can help you manage your social media, keeping you from being overloaded by information that doesn’t matter to you. Social aggregators can put all the information in one spot for you, making your tasks much faster.

  5. Turn Off Notifications – There must be parts of your day where social media doesn’t come into play. When you’re in a meeting; when you’re with your family; when you’re out with friends; when you’re in the bathroom. These are just a few examples, but you get the idea. Turn it off. Don’t look at it other than during the times you’ve set.

  6. Avoid Multitasking – Sometimes when you try to do too much at once, you end up sucked into the social media black hole because your brain is trying to get a break. Instead, when you’re on social media, only do social media that you’ve planned. When you’re with your family, be with your family.

  7. Don’t Lie to Yourself – Many times being “busy” feels good. It feels like you’re doing something and accomplishing something. But, the truth is, not all activities that make you busy are productive. It’s important that you develop the ability to be honest with yourself about why you’re doing something.

Social media overload can cause a multitude of problems. Headaches due to stress are very common from looking at screens and seeing the abundance of (often contradictory) information streaming through your social media accounts. Learn to schedule and learn to plan, and you’ll avoid social media overload.

Freelance Writers for Web Content

268 0 03 Oct 2017

Working from home is something that most people wish they could do, but most do not know where to start or what they can do. Working at home is convenient for moms and dads that have children at home and want to avoid the expense of daycare. Freelance writing is just one of the many job opportunities that parents have to work from home and still have time to care for the kids.

As a freelance writer for web content, you have the ability to control your pay rate. You can write for webmasters that are looking for quality and well-researched content for their websites. A freelance writer can choose the types of writing assignments that they want. If you choose to be a writer for web content, you should have the basic knowledge of the English language and grammar.

If you have the ability to write compelling content, you could look for work as a freelance writer. Besides writing for clients, a freelance writer can write content for him or herself and publish it on one of the many websites that pay for page views or pay residual earning for page views and Google AdSense. The opportunities for a freelance writer are endless.

Although, writing for the Internet is a little different from copywriting for magazines and other publications, a writer has to have some experience with writing in order to provide quality content. Most people will want to take a free online writing course that is offered by many different organizations. There are writers that offer classes to those that are interested in becoming a freelance writer for web content.

As a work at home mom, you will have the ability to choose the hours that you work. Although you will be working from home, a freelance writing career is just like any other job, you have to do the work and meet deadlines. A writer that works at home must have dedication and commitment to the job. If you have a problem with procrastination, you are going to fall behind and miss important deadlines that could ruin a career quickly.

Many moms work when the kids go to bed at night, but some find interesting things to keep the kids busy while they sit next to them and work. You have to be able to take care of the family and still make an income. You need to be able to research and write an article that is compelling to read.

This can be a challenge when the kids are not happy keeping themselves occupied. Many work at home moms, write in the early morning hours before the kids get up and at night when they go to bed. This can take time away from other things you might want to be doing such as watching TV with your spouse. You have to make some small sacrifices to become a freelance writer with a family and still make a monthly income.

How do you find clients to write for on the Internet? How much do you charge for writing an article? New writers often ask these legitimate questions and seek answers from veteran writers. The answers vary depending on the type of writing you want to do. New writers can use bidding sites to find work or they can offer their services by making a website of their own and advertising. Craigslist and Flex Jobs also have listings in which people are looking for freelance writers.

The prices you charge are up to you, but you want to make it worth your time to write. Writing a 500-word article with research for five dollars is not going add up quickly. If you need to make ten dollars an hour, you could charge ten dollars per 500-word articles. Some freelance writers make up to fifty dollars for a 500-word article, but you have to have some experience before you make this amount of money per article.

If you want to work at home and do something exciting, freelance writing is exciting and rewarding. You can choose your own hours and if there is something you need to do during the day with the kids, you can schedule your work around it. All you need is some ideas to get started and once you make your first paycheck, you will be thrilled.

10 Ways to Start Taking Control

290 0 03 Oct 2017

At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges, take control and move forward.

Practicing positive thinking allows people with ADD to focus on our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following tips provide practical suggestions that you can use to help you shift into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself

It’s much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For

Stresses and challenges don’t seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions

A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes

Have you ever told a partner “You’re ALWAYS late!” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call me!”? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like ‘always’ and ‘never’ makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts

Your thoughts can’t hold any power over you if you don’t judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don’t follow it.

6. Squash the “ANTs”

In his book “Change Your Brain, Change Your Life,” Dr. Daniel Amen talks about “ANTs” – Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!” When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin’, Touchin’ & Squeezin’ (Your and Family)

You don’t have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good friends. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn’t touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity

By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person

Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination

If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It’s never productive, because it’s not rational or solution-oriented, it’s just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment – go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem to work well even under pressure, but they’re uncommon ones and we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like stress under our skins won’t solve our problems. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to admit that we’re turning to be workaholics than tell ourselves that we’re not doing our best.

What Is Information Overload?

295 0 02 Oct 2017

Have you ever started something new – a new job, a new sport, even a new game and you’re trying to learn the information and it feels like your brain might explode? That’s an exaggerated symptom of information overload. But, most people are experiencing it daily from normal life due to fast access to information via the internet.

information overload

Information overload can cause the following symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Stress
  • Moodiness
  • Overweight
  • Cardiovascular issues
  • And more…

Plus, often it can cause problems in interpersonal relationships and work relationships. The reason is that most information overload is a choice you make. You choose to be on social media all day; you choose to watch every single news station and every single pundit on TV talk about whatever is the topic of the day.

It’s Like Drinking Water from a Fire Hydrant

Anytime you want to learn something, it’s tempting to start gathering tons of information. And due to the net, it’s easy to get drawn down into the rabbit hole of unending information. It becomes hard to determine what information is good and what information is bad.

It Leads to Poor Information Filtering

When you are bombarded with so much information, your brain can’t filter it properly. Your brain does something called twigging, which means that instead of filtering information in terms of importance it just generalizes all information as being the same. This is terrible for decision making.

It Leads to Bad Choices

If you can’t properly filter information to determine what is true, what is right and what is wrong, you’ll have a hard time making the right choices. The information overload causes you to choose wrongly on any number of issues, because with so much noise going on you can’t determine what is right.

It Harms Your Relationships

Information overload can harm your relationships. If you’re always reading your smartphone, looking at social media and aren’t present in your life, it can hurt intimacy. If your partner and friends are complaining, take heed.

It Leads to Black and White Thinking

The world is not black and white. The world is colorful, black, white, gray and everything in between and more. The same can be said for a lot of issues. There are very few issues that are either right or wrong, black or white.

If you have too much information at your fingertips and are rating everything the same, it’s easy to see things as black and white, which can make it hard to negotiate a happy life and successful business.

It Can Lead to Mental Issues Like Depression

When you get to the point of information overload, a lot of people experience mental problems such as short-term memory issues and even depression. If you find that you’re just feeling mixed up a lot, forget appointments and aren’t doing your best at home or work, consider information overload as a potential culprit.

Information overload can be a big problem for a lot of people. People are wrecking their cars due to not being able to turn away from looking at their text messages. Who knows how much money is lost in overall productivity due to information overload.

You can do your part by trying to limit information overload for yourself and your family. You can also encourage co-workers and employees to avoid multitasking and focus training on smaller topics rather than broad ones.

Happy As You Want to Be

444 0 02 Oct 2017

Almost everyone have heard the hit single ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy‘ by Bobby McFerrin. The song has a very catchy way of conveying its message of being happy to everyone. Bobby Mcferrin’s simple message surely made a lot of people by telling them not to worry.

Living a happy, resilient and optimistic life is wonderful, and is also good for your health. Being happy actually protects you from the stresses of life. Stress is linked to top causes of death such as heart disease, cancer and stroke.

One of the better things ever said is – ‘The only thing in life that will always remain the same is change’, and in our life we have the power to make the necessary changes if we want to. Even if we find ourselves in an unbearable situation we can always find solace in the knowledge that it too would change.

Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. People are different, accept people for who or what they are, avoid clashes, constant arguments, and let go of all kinds of resentments. If arguments seem unavoidable still try and make an effort to understand the situation and you might just get along with well with

Happiness is actually found in everyone, increasing it is a way to make a life more wonderful and also more healthy.

To be happy is relatively easy, just decide to be a happy person. Abraham Lincoln observed that most people for most of the time can choose how happy or stressed, how relaxed or troubled, how bright or dull their outlook to be. The choice is simple really, choose to be happy.

There are several ways by which you can do this.

Being grateful is a great attitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank the taxi driver for bringing you home safely, thank the cook for a wonderful dinner and thank the guy who cleans your windows. Also thank the mailman for bringing you your mails, thank the policeman for making your place safe and thank God for being alive.

News is stressful. Get less of it. Some people just can’t start their day without their daily dose of news. Try and think about it, 99% of the news we hear or read is bad news. Starting the day with bad news does not seem to be a sensible thing to do.

A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing, sacraments, chanting, prayers and meditations foster inner peace.

Manage your time. Time is invaluable and too important to waste. Time management can be viewed as a list of rules that involves scheduling, setting goals, planning, creating lists of things to do and prioritizing. These are the core basics of time management that should be understood to develop an efficient personal time management skill. These basic skills can be fine tuned further to include the finer points of each skill that can give you that extra reserve to make the results you desire.

Laugh and laugh heartily everyday. Heard a good joke? Tell your friends or family about it. As they also say -‘Laughter is the best medicine’.

Express your feelings, affections, friendship and passion to people around you. They will most likely reciprocate your actions. Try not to keep pent up anger of frustrations, this is bad for your health. Instead find ways of expressing them in a way that will not cause more injury or hurt to anyone.

Working hard brings tremendous personal satisfaction. It gives a feeling of being competent in finishing our tasks. Accomplishments are necessary for all of us, they give us a sense of value. Work on things that you feel worthy of your time.

Learning is a joyful exercise. Try and learn something new everyday. Learning also makes us expand and broaden our horizons. And could also give us more opportunities in the future.

Run, jog, walk and do other things that your body was made for. Feel alive.

Avoid exposure to negative elements like loud noises, toxins and hazardous places.

These are the few simple things you can do everyday to be happy.

And always remember the quote from Abraham Lincoln, he says that, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
